intercourse with biscuits: #demo2010: a dispatch from your correspondent on Whitehall: "There's a war going on…"

brokenbottleboy:

Things I love about Manchester…

  1. It’s a direct train. Even when you have to get a really early train, you roll on, and its likely that they will chuck you off at the other end (Manchester Picadilly) if you oversleep. You can’t lose.
  2. Some of the biggest and coolest HR and recruitment events happen there. CIPD moved there last year for the annual conference and exhibition, and I recently attended #truManchester there. Yesterday I saw Dan Pink and Marcus Buckingham speak at ‘Unleashing your strengths - the power of potential’. More blogs are coming up on both of these soon on my HRzone editor’s blog.
  3. The architecture is amazing and even some of the newer builds are beautifully designed. I spend a lot of time in Manchester walking around, looking up at the magnificent buildings. I trip a lot as a consequence.
  4. I can vouch for the lively nightlife, although what it’s like without a bunch of HR consultants and Irish recruiters drunk on £3 moijtos I wouldn’t know.
  5. Talking of which, it’s well cheap. Compared to London, everything is a bargain.
  6. It’s got a good vibe. When I go to a city, I know quite quickly if I like it or not. I like Manchester’s feel and the people are always friendly.
